More Details

Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy was one of my grandfather's favorite hymns. So when he passed away, I wrote this arrangement for a family quartet to sing at his funeral.

The text is a glorious message of hope, and a reminder for us all to be vigilant and to reach out to those who might be in need of our help. This message, along with the simple, beautiful melody, have endeared this hymn to many!

The BYU Men's Chorus included this arrangement as part of their album entitled, Set Apart: Beloved Missionary Hymns

Text

Brightly beams our Father's mercy
From his lighthouse evermore,
But to us he gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.

[Chorus]
Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

Dark the night of sin has settled;
Loud the angry billows roar.
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.

Trim your feeble lamp, my brother;
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.
