I originally wrote Believe as a hymn. It was inspired by the simple phrase in Mark 5:36:

"Be not afraid, only believe."

After I wrote the hymn, I kept feeling that I should expand it to more of a choir piece suitable for worship services and accessible to most church choirs. And while I was at it, I also did a solo and duet version as well.

The text is an expression of my simple faith that the Lord is fully aware of our lives and that he will guide us and bless us if we put our trust in him and his ways. The last verse is a prayer, asking the Lord to grant us the help and strength to remain faithful to him and to continue walking in his ways throughout our lives.

Be not afraid,
only believe.
Doubt not, fear not;
Trust He will lead.
Blessed is he
Whose trust is complete.
So let us stand firm;
In time we will learn
If we have faith and believe.

In ev'ry thought
Look humbly to Him:
List'ning, heark'ning,
Changing within,
Setting aside
Our pride and our greed.
By holding the rod
We step toward our God
If we have faith and believe.

Lord, grant us strength
to help us remain
Keeping cov'nants,
Praising thy name,
Staying the path,
And serving with zeal.
Thy words be our guide
Through all of our lives.
Help us have faith, Help us believe
Help us, dear Father,
Help us have faith and believe.
