Music by Joseph Parry (1841-1903)
Lyrics by Russell M. Nelson
Arranged by Lane Johnson
Available for: SATB
Piano or Organ Accompaniment
Level: Easy
Duration: ~3:30
The music for Our Prayer to Thee is from a famous Welsh song, originally titled Myfanwy, composed by Josephy Parry (1841-1903) and lyrics written by Richard Davies (1833 – 1877). it was first published in 1875.
Since then, the music has had different lyrics put to it, including the hymn, O Home Beloved, with lyrics by Evan Stephens. That version was included in The Songs of Zion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1918 and was also included in the church's 1985 Hymns.
This version of the hymn has new words by Russell M. Nelson, former president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The hymn has a very calming and peaceful feel to it, very befitting of a prayer to the Lord.
This arrangement of the hymn for mixed voices and piano or organ accompaniment is designed to be accessible to most church choirs and is perfect for worship services.
We pray to Thee, our Heav’nly Father,
With grateful hearts and deep devotion.
We thank Thee for our great Exemplar—
Thy beloved and atoning Son—
Who gave Himself as sacred ransom,
That we may live again with Thee!
Our joy is full, our song so gladsome;
Renew our faith and hope in Thee.
We pray to Thee, our Heav’nly Father,
With humble hearts and adoration.
We thank Thee for our loving Savior,
Who came to save from death and sin.
He gave to us Thy truth to brighten
Our path, to help us walk His way—
To love and serve, to lift and lighten
The lives of others day by day.
We pray to Thee, our Heav’nly Father,
With grateful hearts and deep devotion,
In promised joy and endless splendor—
May we be bound to Thee as one!
We seek Thy mercy and forgiveness
And pray to know Thy holy will.
We yearn for Thee; we plead in meekness.
May we Thy holy laws fulfill.
